Joining the Deterrence Dispensed Keybase is easy, but you’ll be forgiven for not knowing how. Most social platforms are not friendly towards 3D printed guns and gun parts, so sharing the details on how to join could get a user banned from that platform.

No worries! Here’s everything you need to know:

First off, What is the Deterrence Dispensed Keybase?

Let’s start by talking about what Keybase is. Keybase is a blockchain based real time chat app in which your messages are automatically deleted “exploded” after a set period of time. It also has some other functions such as file hosting and a built in crypto wallet for the Lumens currency.

Deterrence Dispensed is setup as a team within the app, having several chat channels to choose from.

Deterrence Dispensed Keybase

Step 1: Download Keybase

First and foremost, you’ll need to download keybase. It’s available for Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux.

Step 2: Joint the Team

Groups are setup as teams in Keybase, similar to the chat app Slack. You’ll need to navigate to the teams tab, where you’ll find a button labelled “Join a team”.

After you click (or tap) that button, type in “det_disp” and click continue. This will then let you apply to join the team. After an admin accepts your invite you’ll be in with the general chat as your first team chat.

Say “Hi!”

Step 3: Joining Other Channels and Learning the Rules

Now you’re ready to start chatting and reading up on the what’s happening in the group. You’ll start in #general but there are several other channels you can join.

To join a new chat channel, all you’ll need to do is click (or tap) the cog wheel next to the Deterrence Dispensed team name in your left panel. This will then give you the option to manage chat channels. Clicking here will reveal all possible channels to join.

Take a look around and join those which you’re interested in.

From there, all that you need to know are the rules of the group. It’s pretty simple:

  1. Don’t be a jerk
  2. Try to keep chats focused on their subject.

Rule number 1 is self explanatory, but rule number 2 can trip some people up. Primarily, when it comes to talking in #work-in-progress and in #general.

Let’s start with talking in #general. While general is a catch all in our channel, we still want it to be firearm or 3D printing focused. Ideally, 3D printing related queries will go into #3D-printing, but you’ll be forgiven for sharing in general. Politics, even firearm related, should go into #politics and anything non-firearm related should go in #off-topic.

That basically it! Feel free to ping me if you have further questions. My username in the group is WindowsTheOS.
